you can do it easiest by shampooing your hair, condtioning it well,and afterwards while its wet, cornrow it to the back and sit under a dryer until it is completely dry,( or tye it down and sleep on it all night and take it loose the next morning)and take it down with your fingers. You should end up with the look you are going for.

try a curling iron instead and use gel (scrunch it after you curl) instead of hairspraying it- to get tighter curles use a skinnier curling iron :D

Also, you can wash, oil and moisturize and scrunch it. You will have to keep working it thru and scrunch as you do it.
